You know those stories that creep up on you? Where the author takes their time, slipping in subtle clues that you don’t always catch right away, and the atmosphere becomes darker and darker? I do, and I very much enjoy the slow build up as the author introduces the characters, fleshes them out so you connect with them, and then starts adding in some odd occurrences that keep you on edge. Like in a movie where the music builds and you know any second now something horrific is going to happen, you brace yourself for that moment. But it doesn’t come. Then it builds again, gets a little creepier, but doesn’t happen. You start to think it never will, and then you’re caught off guard and jump when the author yells boo. This is one of those stories. It’s edgy, suspenseful and so very creepy.Christian Moore is a mild mannered English teacher and a self proclaimed loner. He’s got his routine and he’s content. As such, he’s ill equipped when a strange package is left in his driveway. He opens it to find an enormous black cat with huge paws. He brings it in out of the rain and the cat is so traumatized it won’t leave his side. It’s odd behavior rubs off on him and he starts jumping at little noises and things moving in the corner of his vision. Soon he wonders what the cat dragged home as he becomes haunted in his own home.
So much to like in this one. Especially how Christian uses the students in his writing class. The students really like Christian and find it fun when he gives them a new assignment about ghosts and hauntings, hoping they don’t catch on that it’s really happening to him.
The cat, Pacman, is such an important part of the story. He’s one of my favorites. When reading this book, see if you pick up on something special about him.
As Christian is pushed into solving a serial killer cold case, his life changes quickly. The hauntings become the least of his worries when an act of kindness puts him in the local newspaper. Now he’s a target and those around him will suffer for it.
Such a great story. At times I smiled and laughed. Other times I felt so sad. And when things took the dark turn, I cringed, worried about these characters, and for good reason.
A slow burner but never boring, Paranormal Painless will haunt you.

Paranormal Painless Shannon Rieger Books Reviews
Paranormal Painless Ghost Stories and Serial Killers
By Shannon Rieger
5 out of 5 stars
The story Paranormal Painless Ghost Stories and Serial Killers by Shannon Rieger is a thrilling suspense story. This is a wonderful story that had me from the beginning and found I couldn’t put it down until I finished. This is the story of Christian Moore. He is a teacher who loves his job and his students. He also is a man that doesn’t take chances in his life. His days blend into one other and you could say he plays it safe. Events in his childhood influenced how he lives his life. Then one day he finds his world changing and him having to adapt to new situations. What would you do if you were able to talk to and see what others couldn’t? How would you keep your sanity?
This is a story that will give you chills and will have you quickly turning pages to find out the answers to unsolved mysteries. Christian is pulled into solving these mysteries and in the process also trying to find himself. The visions that he sees helps in his journey and once put together he finds himself up against forces that threaten his life. I also believe that some of the best scenes in the book deal with Christian and how he interacts with his students. There is also a mysterious man that once he shows up helps Christian with his current situation and provides advice. I am a big believer in the paranormal and found this book awesome. It is not the first book I have read by the author and have always found her books very enjoyable. Her attention to detail and character development is awesome. The atmosphere that is created will have you on the edge of your seat.
I give Paranormal Painless Ghost Stories and Serial Killers by Shannon Rieger 5 stars.
Christian Moore lives alone. He likes it that way. It’s comfortable and safer. His tragic past has taught him not love, you will just end up heart-broken when they are no longer there. He finds his life as a high school English teacher quite rewarding. His students are quite enjoyable and they seem to like him too. Little does he know a gift left for him will change everything.
He comes home from work one day to find a box waiting for him in his driveway. As he approaches the box, he hears a noise. Opening the flaps, he see s a bright green eye staringat him. Someone has left a cat in cardboard box in the pouring rain! There is something about that big black cat. He picks him up and there cat is immediately appreciative. Cristian brings the cat in, dries him off, and brings the cart to lay on the couch to lay with him. The cat instantly curls up against him and falls asleep. Christian never wanted a pet in his adult life, but there I just something about this big black cat.
Not all is as happy as it seems though. The night he brings the cat in, strange things start happening around the house. Christian has seen way too many horror moves and read too many horror novels. He knows there’s no so thing as ghosts. But what else could be happening in his house? And what do these spirits want? Some of the things happening are down right terrifying. Are they out to do him harm? And what part does the cat play in all this?
This is a wonderful horror book. It is written so well. It has all the atmosphere and descriptors that all great horror books have. But there is so much more going on in this book too. It is much more than a simple scary book. I could not put this book down. I believe it belongs up there with the other great horror novels. Your pulse may quicken, you may need to leave the lights on, but you will not be disappointed nor be able to put it down!
